History The Humanist Celebrant Network has been in existence for many years and is recognised by the Australian Commonwealth Attorney General's Department as an official Celebrant Association for purposes of celebrant consultation and disbursement of celebrant electronic publications, and other notices and representations.
Association Structure The Humanist Celebrant Network is an association of like minded Celebrants (including Australian Commonwealth Registered Marriage Celebrants, generalist Civil Celebrants, overseas Celebrants) that has close affiliation with (and recognition from) the Humanist Society of NSW Inc., which is a member of the Council of Australian Humanist Societies Inc., and thus the International Humanist and Ethical Union.

Communication is by email contact on an as-needed basis. Representation to and from the Commonwealth Attorney General's Office is often the trigger for emails.

It is noted that the Humanist Celebrant Network members are almost all members of other Celebrant Associations and that the Humanist Celebrant Network is an extra outlet for Humanist orientated concerns and mutual assistance. The Humanist Celebrant Network hasn't really reached its potential and is open to increasing its outreach to creative Civil Celebrants.
Membership requirements "Free will Association" Membership in the Humanist Celebrant Network is open to all with access to an Internet connected computer who are in general agreement with the following statement:
Philosophy "Humanists try to lead ethical and responsible lives without reliance on belief in supernatural influences. They believe it is possible to build a more humane democratic society using human capabilities, tempered by critical reason and a spirit of free enquiry. This open-ended, uncertain yet optimistic approach to living is called Humanism."
Well known Australian Humanists include High Court Justice, Senator, and former Attorney General of the Australia (and initiator of the Commonwealth Civil Celebrant concept as a result of Humanist sentiments) Lionel Murphy, Phillip Adams, Eva Cox, Donald Horne, John Hirshman, Phillip Nitschke and Doug Everingham."

If you are in general agreement with the principles of Humanism outlined above, we would welcome you to the Humanist Celebrant Network. Please send a statement of agreement to Charles, the President, Coordinator.

We have Humanist Celebrant Network members in most states and territories.
