CERTIFICATE IV IN CELEBRANCY AS THREE YEARS WORTH OF OPD
The Attorney-General’s Department has just announced (April 24, 2010) a significant change in the Regulations under the Marriage Act.
Celebrants have a choice. They can choose one of the three providers to complete five hours of Ongoing Professional Development (OPD). Or they can gain the Certificate IV in Celebrancy by coursework only.
They have made it clear, on the Attorney-General’s website, that OPD cannot be gained by recognition of prior learning (RPL) -- Requirements for the five compulsory subjects and the four compulsory marriage celebrancy subjects must be done by coursework. Thirteen (13) Units must be completed for the Certificate IV. Nine of these units are particularly relevant to the Marriage Celebrant aspect of this qualification.
This means that you can still gain recognition of prior learning (RPL) for four of the optional subjects. (To apply to become a Celebrant, or to complete Cert IV for other reasons, RPL operates normally).
If you gain the Certificate IV in Celebrancy, you will not be required to complete OPD activities for this year and the next two years i.e. the year you gain the Cert IV and the two years following.
If you wish to gain the Certificate IV in Celebrancy in a worthwhile way, a way which will improve your knowledge and skills as a professional celebrant, why not study it with the International College of Celebrancy?
