Celebrant background: My background has been mainly in community development and social work which involved research, planning and implementing groups within the local area to meet specific needs.
This work involved working with Individuals, organisations and groups all across the community.
Moving into Marriage Celebrancy as another stream of work after retirement seemed a natural progression in that each are people orientated, planning, public speaking and research to perform a wedding ceremony designed for each and every couple.
Why I'm a celebrant: I have always loved interacting and working with individuals and groups. Because of my role as a Justice of Peace I had had a few enquires as to whether I could perform wedding ceremonies. Those questions got me thinking and after much research I decided that moving into Marriage Celebrancy as another stream of work after retirement seemed a natural progression. Each are people orientated, planning, public speaking and research to perform a wedding ceremony designed for each and every couple. I just love doing what I do now.
Treasured memories: It is very difficult to pick out any treasured memories because all of the memories are treasured in their own special way.

The many treasured moments include the look of sheer wonder when the groom first sees his bride to be as she walks down the aisle towards him, the happy and emotional tears when they read out their own special vows, the moments when the sun knows when it is time to come out behind the clouds and shine for the happy couple.

Treasured moments include the uniqueness of each ceremony and what it means to each couple.
Tips : Good communication between the couple and their chosen Celebrant is paramount. Let your celebrant know what you see your ceremony as being and work together to achieve your dream ceremony.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions, big or small, as your celebrant is there to help you all the way.

Having a rehearsal is ever so important in that it gives you the opportunity to sync your music and your walk down the aisle, gives your nervous dad who is presenting you to your htb the opportunity to practice his role, gives all the wedding party the opportunity to practice what their role is.

A rehearsal brings together any loose ends and gives the opportunity for anyone in the bridal party to ask questions. A rehearsal makes the wedding day more relaxed and makes the choreography on the day run smoothly and hopefully without any hiccups.
and I'd like to say: If the little flower girl runs off to be with nana, or if the little ring bearer drops the rings, or the button hole flowers for the groomsmen aren’t exactly what you ordered, or you said “my awful husband” instead of lawful husband. (always gets a giggle or two).

Some things are beyond your control but none of the above are all that important in the bigger scheme of things. So what I am trying to say is don’t sweat the small stuff because at the end of the day you will be married to the love of your life.
