Celebrant background: Originally trained in education, I worked at kindergarten, primary and technical schools before moving into volunteer management and welfare, later working in all levels of government. My career has involved working with people, helping them to achieve satisfying solutions or conclusions to their issues and concerns.

After my husband died, I raised our four sons alone. Three years ago, I married my childhood sweetheart. Being a mature bride myself brought home the reality of preparing for a wedding and dealing with the issues the day day threw up.

My new husband and I live between our homes in Box Hill (Vic) and Narooma (NSW).
Why I'm a celebrant: Helping a friend arrange her second marriage and searching for a celebrant made me realise how important it was to find the person who was the ‘right fit.’  We found such a celebrant and talking after the ceremony, my friend commented how confident and relaxed the celebrant had made her feel in the time leading up to and the actual ceremony.  I sought out the celebrant again and spoke with her, learning that she was about to retire.  She felt that I had the right qualities and recommended applying, and 25 years later, I still think it is the best thing I have ever done.
Treasured memories: A favourite memory is of a couple aged 86 and 90 who had decided to marry after being together for 20 years.  The wedding was sparked because hospital staff wouldn’t comment on the woman’s condition to her partner, saying that only next of kin could have that information – the bride said, ‘no-one will insult (name) again because they will be dealing with my husband!’Sadly after four months of marriage the bride died, and I was honoured when asked to be her funeral celebrant.  Five years later, the groom died and again I was the celebrant – such a memorable couple.
Tips : I tell my brides who will marry in cold weather to ensure they have a jacket or wrap to use during the ceremony.  Nothing is worse than a ‘blue bride’ and there is plenty of time for the glamour photos later.
and I'd like to say: Don’t leave booking your celebrant until the last minute, remember LEGALLY you cannot book a wedding to take place in under one calendar month – allow enough time to book the right celebrant.
