Where to find birth, death & marriage certificates

To get married in Australia you will need to provide evidence of your date and place of birth, your freedom to marry and other documents to prove your identity.

While it is preferable to have your documents ready when you meet with and book your marriage celebrant, the documents can be provided later.

The following certificates can be obtained from REGISTRIES OF BIRTHS, DEATHS AND MARRIAGES (in the state where the birth, death or marriage occurred)
