Why I'm a celebrant: I started Your Queer Celebrant because when I planned my own wedding I had to balance my cultural rituals, my family’s conservative expectation of who can be married, and my (and my now wife’s) values, beliefs and personality.
Basically, I wanted someone like me.
And I didn’t think that was too much to ask for. After all, if a white, straight couple can find a white, straight celebrant then why couldn’t I find a queer, person of colour as my celebrant?
When I looked for a celebrant who could relate to that, I couldn’t find anyone (but if you are let me know if you’re out there!).
So I decided to be that person.
While planning my wedding, I started studying to be a wedding celebrant. Now here I am!
I’m a queer celebrant - and I could be your queer celebrant.
